Barwon Heads has chosen Winter Reserve, the home of GDFNL club Belmont Lions, to host its Round 18 matchup with Geelong Amateur.
AFL Barwon has confirmed the venue switch from Howard Harmer Oval for the August 8 clash, which is unavailable due to the pavilion upgrade and works at the venue’s netball courts.
The Seagulls have a strong link to the Lions, with former player Andy Walsgott coaching the club.
Barwon Heads had a heavily front-ended home fixture, with eight of their nine home games played up to and including Round 11, after which the upgrade commenced
It is understood Barwon Heads looked at several options for the match with the Pegs, including “selling” the match back to Geelong Amateur, Newcomb’s PlasterCom Oval, Ocean Grove Memorial and Anthony Costa Oval, home of GFNL club St Mary’s.
The fourth-placed Seagulls posted an impressive 7-1 win-loss record at Howard Harmer Oval, with their only loss to Torquay.
However, away from home they are 2-4, with their only wins against competition newcomers Surf Coast, and a come-from-behind effort against Anglesea on the weekend.
