One of the most highly respected local coaches and five-time premiership coach Heath Jamieson is returning to Queenscliff in 2024 and looking to take the club back to the top of the BFNL

Jamieson will fill the role made vacant by Rory Nicol, who stepped away from the role before the Round 15 loss to Newcomb.

Jamieson is a big-picture guy and believes in building up the entire club, not just the senior footy team, as shown at the three clubs he has led to premierships.

His first coaching stint was at the Coutas from 2008 to 2011, taking the club to its second BFNL premiership, and its first in 36 years, in 2011.

Jamo left the Coutas in good shape, going on to win the premiership in 2012 and 2013, but the club has since been hovering around mid-table.

In 2012 he moved to St Josephs in the GFNL, building the club up at all levels and leading them to three premierships in four years in 2015, ’17 and ’18.

In 2019 he moved to coach the University Blues in the Victorian Amateur Football Association, winning the premiership that year.

After the 2020 season was wiped out by COVID, he moved to Queensland for work, returning to Queenscliff last year.

Jamo’s return to the Coutas will bring enormous confidence to the club, as he works to again build it up to being a league-leader.

“My kids have been playing down at the club this year and I’ve been to a few games this year and saw Rory did a great job with the young list,” Jamieson said.

“I’ve got quite a lot of family in Queenscliff, the club obviously means a lot to me,” he said.

“They gave me an opportunity in the early days, so I’m looking forward to getting back and getting into it.

“They’ve got a great young list.

“I’ll be calling a lot of our one-pointers who have left the club over time, to try to get them back through the door and then just look at building on the good work the club has already done.”
