Portarlington has put the finishing touches on arguably its most fruitful off-season in more than 30 years with the signing of a former VFL duo.
The Demons have confirmed the arrival of best mates Nick Sing and Jack Dorgan on two-year deals as the Darren Findlay era begins with a bang at Ron Evans Oval.
Sing, who owns a holiday house at neighbouring St Leonards, arrives from VAFA preliminary finalist St Kevin’s.
He played 113 VFL games, including 107 at Williamstown, and featured in the Seagulls’ 2015 premiership team.
“Nick’s known to lock away forwards of all sizes and keep them out of the game completely,” Portarlington said in a statement.
“(He has) strength in the air to make a contest and sharp on the deck to not allow them to get away.
“Nick’s a very reliable teammate with classy skills.”
Dorgan, who was most recently a premiership teammate of fellow recruit Scott Greenhough at Essendon and District club Deer Park, played 75 games and kicked 37 goals with Williamstown.
“Jack is a hard-running midfielder, with a lethal left foot and the ability to kick multiple goals a game,” the club said.
“He’s also ultra-competitive and hates losing a one-on-one.
“We look forward to seeing him bursting out packs in 2025 and hitting up our forwards or kicking goals himself.”
Dorgan and Sing’s signings follow the previously announced additions of Greenhough, former Geelong VFL and Swan Districts speedster Tom Panuccio, Leopold trio Riley Hayden, Mitch Howard, and Nick Lane, and Caleb Kennedy from Bendigo League club Strathfieldsaye.
It’s a haul not seen by the club since the arrival of its last premiership coach, Steve Winter, in 1991.
Former Carlton AFL player Jaryd Cachia is the only confirmed departure after announcing his retirement following an injury-interrupted season at the Demons.
Portarlington concluded its pre-Christmas training block with a Wednesday night session at Len Trewin Reserve in St Leonards.
The Demons have built a relationship with the town’s cricket club as it looks to capitalise on an expanding population.
