Bellarine League powerhouse Barwon Heads has queried the benefit of AFL Barwon’s proposed restructure of local football and netball to their club.
Newly-appointed president Russell Hyland says the Seagulls, who won premierships on either side of the Covid-impacted 2020 and 2021 seasons, believe there are too many unanswered questions about plans to introduce a three-tiered structure in 2025.
“Everybody’s asking me questions: what happens to the juniors? What happens to the netball? What happens to this? What happens to that? Where do we go? What do we do?” he told K rock’s Beyond the Boundary podcast.
“But, what we’ve taken out of it, it’s really not going to help our club move forward is the way feel.
“It may help some clubs, but I can’t see it helping our club now or next season.
“Perhaps when it’s planned out a little bit better, and there’s more detail involved in it, it could work.
“The way it is at the moment, it doesn’t suit us.”
