Tough calls for Keras

Anglesea coach Jordan Keras has re-signed for a further two years.

Anglesea coach Jordan Keras has revealed how he turned to former coaches and coaching mentors for advice on telling players they wouldn’t be part of Saturday’s Bellarine grand final against Torquay.

Keras told K rock Football’s Beyond the Boundary podcast on Wednesday that the tough selection calls were made on Tuesday night, and any changes will be confirmed when teams are released tonight (Thursday).

Harrison Veale, who has been fighting wildfires in Canada, Jack Rice, and Courtney Wedderburn were the three players the Roos were considering as inclusions to the team that defeated Torquay in the second semi-final.

“I reached out to some coaches who I really respect and got some advice on these hard calls,” Keras said.

“And their advice was to get in early and have no distractions tomorrow night (tonight) and leading into Saturday.

“I took that advice, and we made some calls (Tuesday) night.

“There may be some changes, (and) there may not.”

Meanwhile, Torquay coach Dom Gleeson will give forward Will Tamassy (knee) a chance to prove his fitness at training before finalising his team on Friday.

Ruck Ed McCoy is also being considered after getting through the reserve grade second semi-final in his return from a knee injury that wiped out his second half of the home-and-away season.

“We’ll leave it pretty late,” Gleeson, named coach of the Bellarine Team of the Year for the sixth time last (Wednesday) night, told Beyond the Boundary.

“I certainly feel like Will Tamassy needs a bit of a run. He hurt his knee against Barwon Heads and was playing some really good footy.

“He’ll be a weapon for us if we can get him in.

“And McCoy probably gets another look.”
