Corio has added some much-needed talent and experience by signing former Bell Post Hill and Geelong West (GFNL) star Chris Moreland.
Moreland, who revealed his move to the Devils from Colac and District League club Alvie on social media earlier this month, will be joined by Jarrod Bayliss at Shell Reserve.
Bayliss, whose football career has been based around Melbourne’s outer eastern suburbs and the Yarra Valley, shared premiership success with Moreland at Powelltown in 2023.
He played this year with Coldstream.
The duo first crossed paths representing Vic Country in 2011.
Moreland, who finished third in the 2014 season of a now-defunct reality TV series where the first prize was a spot on an AFL list, is no stranger to the GDFNL.
After featuring in a hat-trick of premierships at Bell Post Hill between 2010-12, he joined the then Geelong West-St Peter’s and went on to captain the Roosters.
Moreland, a regular GFNL representative, departed West after the 2018 season, joining Western League club Wyndhamvale.
He returned to the Panthers for four games in the Covid-shortened 2021 season before two seasons at Powelltown and this year’s stint at Alvie.
However, Moreland’s start at Corio will be delayed until Round 3.
He still has two matches to serve from a three-game ban following an incident in Alvie’s second semi-final loss to eventual premier Lorne.
Meanwhile, the Devils have confirmed via social media the re-signing of reigning Whitley medalist Matt James and vice-captain Toby Bennett, who finished runner-up to James in the club’s best-and-fairest.
