Bell Post Hill captain Jack Yates will challenge a suspension offer at the AFL Barwon Tribunal following an investigation into an incident in last month’s win over Geelong West.
Yates has been charged with rough conduct on Giant Stirling Keane during the third quarter of the clash at West Oval, which found itself in the spotlight after claims a Panther made a homophobic comment.
The incident has been assessed as intentional, high impact, and high contact, drawing a four-match suspension.
Yates could have accepted a three-match suspension with an early guilty plea.
With the tribunal hearing scheduled for next Wednesday, Yates will be free to play in Saturday’s final-round meeting with top-five hopefuls Bannockburn.
