ANAKIE has completed its search for a new coach following the appointment of Daniel Bunworth.
Bunworth, 35, arrives at the Roos following an extensive playing and assistant coaching history in Melbourne’s western suburbs.
Most recently he has been an assistant coach with Point Cook in the WRFL. Before that he was a star at Wyndhamvale, winning three best-and-fairest awards and earning WRFL Team of the Year selection.
He also coached the Falcons in 2017-18.
Bunworth, who replaces Chris Moore, has TAC Cup experience at the Western Jets, spent time with VFL club Port Melbourne, and a season at GFL club Lara in 2005.
“Daniel’s philosophy of developing youth aligns with our club values,” president Heath Menhennet said in a statement.
“Daniel is currently a teacher at Lumen Christi Primary School. We firmly believe the skills he has learnt in teaching mixed with his football experience provide a great combination to move our club forward.
“Daniel will be given all the support needed to prosper in the role, and we look forward to growing as a club in parallel with Daniel’s growth as a coach.”
The appointment of Bunworth, who will also play, is welcome positive news for Anakie.
The Roos have farewelled three stars in recent weeks, including captain Jamie Phillis (North Geelong), big man Kadison McEwan-Walsh (Inverleigh) and young gun Bailey Ettridge (Lara).
“We are also well down the track with our recruitment for season 2021, and with Daniel’s appointment we will have some exciting news on this front in the upcoming weeks,” Menhennet said.
Bunworth’s appointment leaves Modewarre as the region’s only club yet to confirm its coaching appointment for 2021.
