Werribee Centrals veteran Matt Miler was due to undergo facial surgery today (Monday) on an injury suffered in the club’s come-from-behind win over Bell Post Hill on Saturday.

The 38-year-old former co-captain sustained a fractured jaw and other facial injuries late in the first quarter of the clash at Myers Reserve after colliding with Panther Boe Collins.

In a post on the club’s Facebook page, the Centurions paid tribute to Ambulance Victoria’s quick response before Miller was taken to University Hospital Geelong.

“Facial specialists were called in to assess the nature of his injuries,” the post said.

“Surgeons will today commence their delicate operation to get Matty’s jaw on the path to recovery.

“The Centurion family send their thoughts and support to wife Tate and his young children.”

Trailing by 39 points at half-time, the Centurions stormed home to defeat Bell Post Hill by 16 points.

It’s not the first time Miller has suffered a serious facial injury.

In 2021, the former Williamstown VFL player suffered a broken jaw in a clash with Bannockburn, while back in 2013, he fractured a jaw when playing with Leopold.
