MILLIE Brown will resume her AFLW career with the Western Bulldogs after Geelong agreed to trade the talented defender.
The 20-year-old, who joined the Cats as a father-daughter selection in the 2019 AFLW Draft, played nine matches across 2020-21 before taking a break in 2022.
Brown had been training with Geelong’s VFLW team as recently as last month, giving rise to hope she may remain at GMHBA Stadium.
However, the Murray Bushrangers product will head to Whitten Oval along with Victorian pick 10 (national selection 21), with the Cats getting picks 12 and 29 (national 24 and 56) in return.
“We thank Millie for her contribution to our club and all that she brought to our playing group on and off the field in her time with the Cats,” Geelong AFLW boss Brett Johnson said.
“We wish her well as she looks to resume her AFLW career at the Western Bulldogs.”
Geelong has then used pick 24 to add West Coast young gun Mikayla Bowen.
A midfielder, who was the Eagles’ first AFLW signing, the 21-year-old has played 25 AFLW games.
Bowen also captained Western Australia at under-18 level when she was named to the 2019 All-Australian team.
“We’re very excited to welcome Mikayla to Geelong, and believe she will further strengthen our speed and polish in our deepening midfield and forward line,” Johnson said.
“Mikayla has great leadership qualities, and her work rate and running capacity will fit in well with our group, and assist us as we look to continue to build on the foundations we put in place in Season 6.”
The AFLW Draft will be held on June 29.
