Veteran Geelong ruck Rhys Stanley may have played his last game for the club after undergoing knee surgery.
The Cats say the procedure to address soreness in his right knee joint will sideline the 35-year-old for between 4-6 weeks.
The best-case scenario for Stanley, who has played 172 of his 230 AFL matches with Geelong, is being available if Geelong reaches the VFL Grand Final on September 20.
Stanley has made just one AFL appearance in 2026 – against Collingwood in Round 9 – with the Cats preferring Mitch Edwards, with support from Sam De Koning, Mark Blicavs and Shannon Neale.
Max Holmes is listed as 1-3 weeks away after commencing modified training following surgery for a syndesmosis injury sustained against St Kilda last month.
Fellow midfielder James Worpel is facing a similar timeframe as he increases his running loads after suffering a hamstring injury in the win over North Melbourne on August 15.
A decision on Jake Kolodjashnij’s availability for Geelong’s VFL qualifying final against Tasmania on Saturday is yet to be made.
Meanwhile, scans on a hamstring injury suffered by Amy McDonald will determine how much of the AFLW season she will be sidelined for.
McDonald was forced from GMHBA Stadium during the second quarter of Geelong’s record 85-point win over St Kilda.
