How long Max Holmes spends on the sidelines will come down to how the Geelong gun progresses following surgery today (Friday).
The winner of the past two Carji Greeves medals as the Cats’ best-and-fairest, Holmes suffered a right ankle fracture and a syndesmosis injury during the final quarter of Thursday night’s win over St Kilda at GMHBA Stadium.
Holmes, who was on crutches and in a moonboot after the match, is likely to be racing the clock to be part of Geelong’s expected finals campaign.
The speedster wasn’t the only Cats casualty out of the night, with dynamic forward Shaun Mannagh experiencing hamstring awareness and failing to see out the match.
Meanwhile, captain Patrick Dangerfield and youngster Jhye Clark have been offered fines by the AFL’s Match Review Officer following incidents against the Saints.
Dangerfield can accept a $1500 fine for rough conduct on St Kilda counterpart Callum Wilkie during the first quarter.
While Clark has been offered a $2000 sanction for rough conduct on Saints forward Jack Higgins, also in the opening term.
