Taken with pick No.50 in last year’s National Draft, the 18-year-old from the small South Australian town of Cummins, around 7.5 hours from Adelaide, has had no trouble adjusting to life as an AFL footballer.
“It’s just so relaxed here. I’d spoken to almost all the clubs before I got drafted … Geelong was pretty relaxed, just wanted to get to know you,” Kennerly said.
“Then other clubs were footy, footy, footy – pretty serious, and I’m sure that’s how the club would be run.
“I was expecting it to be a bit more serious and stuff, but they really trust you and let you do your own thing and be independent.
“There are not all these rules around “we have to do this, we have to do that”. There are things that we have to do, but they trust us to do them in our own time.
“It’s been really easy to move into and a relaxed environment.”
