Geelong vice-captain Tom Stewart and emerging half-back Lawson Humphries have both been declared fit for Thursday’s qualifying final meeting with Port Adelaide.

The pair failed to see out the Round 24 win over West Coast, with the Cats labelling the pair as “proactively managed after half-time”.

Stewart, who was unlucky not to be part of the 44-man All-Australian squad, has become an important part of the Geelong midfield at times during the season and remains the club’s number-one defender.

Humphries has been a revelation since debuting in the Round 17 win over Essendon.

Following the inclusion of the penultimate pick in last year’s National Draft (pick 63), the Cats have posted a 7-2 record.

In more good news for Geelong, key defender Sam De Koning will make his return from a knee injury that has sidelined him for four weeks in the Cats’ VFL qualifying final against Werribee.

Meanwhile, retirement-bound forward Tom Hawkins and two-time Carji Greeves medalist Cam Guthrie “are both continuing to train with the aim to be available for selection during Geelong’s Finals campaign”, the Cats said.
