WITH Geelong seemingly on-track for another finals appearance, captain Joel Selwood says missing the past fortnight due to soreness may prove beneficial later in the season.
The star Cat was a late withdrawal from the win over Essendon on May 5 before being named as an emergency against North Melbourne.
He was listed on the team sheet as a late replacement for Sam Menegola against the Roos, before making the call not to play half-an-hour later.
“Not that you ever want to look too far ahead, but I did have a ‘lightbulb moment’ that that could be the case with the way the boys have started and continue to play,” Selwood told krockfootball.com.au.
Selwood, who expects to play against the Western Bulldogs on Saturday, revealed he has battled a range of issues through the opening eight rounds.
“It’s a bit of everything,” he said. “I’ve had a back for a little bit, but that very minor.
“Then it was leg/groin, then it went down into my calf a little bit, too.
“It was a combination, over a little period of time.
“I trained well Monday. I’ll train again tomorrow and feel good again.”

Meanwhile, Patrick Dangerfield says a medial ligament problem he has carried for the past fortnight won’t sideline him.
The 2016 Brownlow medallist suffered the injury in the win over Essendon but played against North Melbourne with his knee strapped.
“We wouldn’t have taken the risk if it was going to be something that was going to be an ongoing issue,” Dangerfield said.
“But there’s a fit bit of irritation around that medial ligament, so the strapping supports that.
“You could probably play without strapping, but it’s the proprioception it provides for the muscles around it.
“It’ll still be a little bit sore, but it will progressively get better over the next few weeks.”
