Geelong vice-captain Tom Stewart will need clearance from the club’s medical staff to be considered for Thursday night’s blockbuster clash with grand final conqueror Brisbane Lions at GMHBA Stadium.
Stewart, who completed main training on Monday, has been in the AFL’s concussion protocol since an incident late in the loss to Adelaide in Round 14 on June 4.
He missed the win over the Gold Coast and the defeat by Fremantle that followed.
The Cats say gun midfielder Bailey Smith (illness) and forward Bradley Close (ankle) are expected to be available.
Close is likely to return in the VFL after being dropped for the second time this season following the loss to Carlton.
If Stewart and young big man Jacob Molier play this weekend, luckless big man Toby Conway and 2025 draftee Harley Barker will be the only players Geelong can’t consider for selection across its AFL and VFL teams.
