There are renewed calls to bring back animals at Serendip Sanctuary in Lara.
Parks Victoria has developed draft designs for an all-abilities sensory garden for the area.
It says the garden is being created as part of a masterplan for Serendip and the You Yangs, saying it will feature accessible pathways and resting spots for visitors.
Parks Victoria says it is working with the community and other key stakeholders to plan other initiatives that will be delivered as part of the $11 million plan.
However Barry White from the Lara Care Group said locals wanted to see animals returned to the attraction.
“Things like the sensory garden may look interesting, but it’s really a minor issue in comparison with the principle quest to get wildlife replaced at Serendip,” he said.
“It provides a focal point for visitor attraction for the future, particularly with the visitors coming in from the Spirit of Tasmania.
“We’ve got Avalon Airport within ten minutes, there’s so much domestic and international tourism.”
