A man has been fined after police found him driving in Waurn Ponds – with a baby strapped to his chest.
The man caught around 10.10 on Colac Road and South Valley/Pioneer Road with the child in a baby carrier in the front seat.
“The vehicle was intercepted and when officers approached, they found the driver in the front seat with a young child strapped to his chest in a baby carrier,” a statement said.
“The 37-year-old man from Greater Geelong was issued a penalty notice for failing to ensure passenger under 16 years old is appropriately secured.
“He received a $407 fine and three demerit points.”
The child was placed in the correct seat before the driver was allowed to continue.
“Officers would like to remind motorists that it is a legal requirement for children to be seated in a child restraint, a booster seat or an adult seatbelt that is properly adjusted and fastened.
“The type of restraint to be used depends on the person’s age and size.”
