Artworks using 1.4 tonnes of recycled glass will be installed along Geelong’s Moorabool Street.

The City of Greater Geelong is also planning to upgrade 53 lights on the busy street, which can be set to different colours for significant events.

The council says the artwork by Bradley Eastman, also known as Beastman, will represent the Moorabool River, local landscape and cultural identity.

Works will be undertaken at night over two weeks in the next few months.

Mayor Stretch Kontelj said it would transform the local street.

“I’ve often spoken about how Central Geelong has a lot to offer, but we’ve had issues with its core for a long time,” Cr Kontelj said.

“This incredible artwork and lighting upgrade will now make meaningful steps towards our City’s core being something that we can all be proud of and show off to national and international visitors using the new convention centre.

“The work by Beastman, which effectively brings inspiration from the Moorabool River to Moorabool Street, is a brilliant idea, and I can’t wait to see it installed next month.”
