Trains are back on the tracks on the Geelong and Warrnambool lines from today.
A 72-day ‘construction blitz’ has wrapped up on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds track duplication.
The Victorian government says trains will be travelling over new rail bridges at Fyans Street and the Surf Coast Highway, with the two busy level crossings removed.
It says the duplication will also make it easier for services to pass each other and reducing unexpected delays.
The Waurn Ponds and Marshall stations have also been expanded, including new parking spaces and improved shelters and CCTV.
Minor works are continuing at the South Geelong Station, finishing the Yarra Street car park and the lifts.
The project cost more than $930 million, with the federal government putting in over $780 million.
