Mark Blicavs will extend his incredible career into a 15th season after signing a one-year contract extension.
The 35-year-old former Olympic running hopeful became just the eighth Cat to make 300 VFL/AFL appearances earlier this season, and at 313 matches, is the league record-holder for most matches by a player off the rookie list.
Blicavs, who debuted in Round 1, 2013, featured in Geelong’s 2022 premiership, the same season he earned All-Australian selection, and is a two-time best-and-fairest.
He also represented Victoria in the Bushfire Relief Match in 2020.
A knee injury suffered against Port Adelaide in Round 7 cost Blicavs a month of footy, with his 18 home-and-away matches this season the least of his career.
“Not many players have been able to contribute in as many ways as Mark, and we’re excited he will play on in 2027,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.
“During his career, Mark has been a team-first player who has positively influenced his teammates on and off the field.
“The thirst he had for learning and improving in the early part of his career is something he still has 313 games later, and we look forward to Mark continuing to play a significant role in the team.”
The re-signing of Blicavs leaves fellow premiership players Rhys Stanley, Jake Kolodjahnij and Jed Bews, as well as Jack Bowes, Mitch Knevitt, George Stevens, Jacob Molier, and Keighton Matofai-Forbes without a deal for next year.
