A lengthening injury list is likely to leave Geelong needing top-up players to fill its squad for Sunday’s clash with Essendon at GMHBA Stadium.

The Cats left the Gold Coast with the four points, but also with four players entering the casualty ward.

Zali Friswell will miss at least the clash with the Bombers after being diagnosed with a concussion following the win over the Suns, while Geelong is waiting for results of further assessment on injuries suffered by Emma Kilpatrick (shoulder), Priya Bowering (foot) and Piper Dunlop (knee).

A knee injury suffered by volleyball convert Caitie Tipping in the final-round VFLW win over Port Melbourne will sideline her for anywhere between 3-6 weeks.

The hamstring injury suffered by three-time best-and-fairest Amy McDonald in the Round 2 win over St Kilda will keep her sidelined until at least October.

Irish star Kate Kenny remains TBC with her foot problem, while recruit Alissa Brook is 3-5 weeks away with a foot issue.

Meanwhile, veteran ruck Rhys Stanley’s hopes of playing again in 2026 have improved, with an updated timeline following knee surgery now 1-3 weeks, keeping him in the frame to feature in Geelong’s VFL premiership quest.

James Worpel’s return from a hamstring injury is 1-2 weeks away, while, as has been widely reported, two-time best-and-fairest Max Holmes is in contention to make his return from a syndesmosis injury in Friday night’s elimination final.
