With the 2026 season done, several Geelong stars have either undergone surgery or are preparing to go under the knife.
Carji Greeves Medal favourite Bailey Smith has had right shoulder reconstruction after playing through chronic pain, while Jeremy Cameron will have what the Cats are calling “revision surgery” on the arm he broke in last year’s grand final.
Both are unlikely to be involved in contact training until the new year.
“Bailey has managed a chronic shoulder complaint during the season; surgery will provide the best pathway for his recovery and preparation for 2027,” football boss Andrew Mackie said.
“Jeremy has shown incredible resilience and professionalism in the way he’s managed himself this season and given himself every opportunity to be available for the team.
“With the season now finished, surgery is the best course of action to ensure he is in the strongest possible position heading into pre-season.”
Ruck revelation Mitch Edwards has undergone an arthroscopy on his right knee and is expected to be right when pre-season commences in November.
Meanwhile, veteran ruck Rhys Stanley has been ruled out of the VFL grand final after suffering a suspected pectoral injury in the preliminary final win over Port Melbourne.
The out-of-contract 35-year-old will undergo scans to determine the severity of the damage.
