GEELONG will segregate its four teams amid the threat of Covid-19.

Cats’ football boss Simon Lloyd confirmed its AFL, AFLW, VFL and VFLW would be isolated to different areas of GMHBA Stadium to limit the spread of infection if a player was to contract Coronavirus.

“We’re working through various challenges as we speak,” Lloyd told krockfootball.com.au.

“We’ve been given a lot of guidelines from the AFL, and government support as well. So, we’re trying to work through that, in regards to the Coronavirus.

“We’ve got a lot of staff working remotely, we’ve got strong hygiene protocols in place, and we’re looking at isolation amongst our AFL men’s and our AFL Women’s programs, and also our VFL men’s and VFL Women’s.

“We’ve put some protocols in place to try and protect the health and wellbeing of our staff and supporters as well.

“This is an unprecedented challenge to our game, as it is for the entire community. It will require an unprecedented response from all of us to deal with it.

Lloyd says Geelong is still preparing as if it will play Greater Western Sydney to open the 2020 season at GIANTS Stadium on Saturday night.

“The major conversation for everyone at the moment is around the virus and the challenges everyone’s facing,” he said.

“But, with the group that’s preparing for Round 1 of football, we’re trying to keep things calm.

“The players had a really good session on Saturday, and we’ve got to prepare as if we’re going to play a game of football in Sydney against the GWS Giants until we’re told otherwise.

“That’s the way we’re going about it, and you’ll find most teams are doing the same.”
