Geelong’s sitting seventh on the AFL ladder after beating Essendon in a high scoring affair at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.
The Cats managing a 28-point win for the annual ‘Country Game’ behind a career-best haul of eight goals from veteran Tom Hawkins.
Partner in crime Jeremy Cameron booted three goals to be sitting equal-top of the Coleman Medal board with Carlton’s Charlie Curnow.
Coach Chris Scott said Hawkins has worked his way into the season nicely, after struggling in the early matches of the season coming off a limited pre-season.
“At some point he’s not going to be able to maintain this level, I don’t think it’s going to come quickly,” he said.
“Logic has to take over at some point, he can’t do it forever, but I still marvel at what he can deliver, he doesn’t look like he’s near to the end for me.”
Scott said the team was on the right track, after winning its fourth consecutive game following a shakey start to the season.
“We feel like we’re playing closer to our best footy.
“It’s not just one or two guys – I think some of our best players, Cameron and Dangerfield spring to mind in the previous month getting back to their best.
“But I think it’s improvement across the board.”
Geelong are back at Kardinia Park for Round 8 on Saturday afternoon, playing Adelaide.
