Classy forward Ollie Henry expects to be right for Geelong’s season-opener against St Kilda after a rolled ankle sidelined him from last week’s Community Series win over Essendon.

Henry, a rare shining light for the Cats in 2023 with 41 goals in his first season after crossing from Collingwood, suffered the injury at training in the lead-up to the meeting with the Bombers.

But he’s told K rock’s Tom, Lingy & Loggy his recovery is tracking well.

“It’s all gone pretty positively,” Henry said.

“Get through training today (Friday), and (I) should be in good stead to be right to play, which will be nice.”

HUNGER REMAINS FOR CATS

Named Geelong’s best young player in 2023, Henry has avoided setting a target for his goalkicking tally this year.

“What works for me is thinking about week-by-week, ‘What can I do to make our team better?'” he said.

“‘And what will the things I do that week … to make myself play better?’

“I think I’m just going to have that mindset (of) team first week-by-week and not get caught up thinking too far ahead.”

The likely availability of Henry leaves Cam Guthrie (quad) and Gary Rohan (back) as the only first-choice players Geelong won’t be able to consider for the meeting with the Saints.

Meanwhile, ticket sales for the game, which marks the official opening of the Joel Selwood Stand are pointing towards the expected sellout.
