“Time to smell the roses”

CHRIS Scott is keen to lap up Geelong’s premiership success after admitting he didn’t make the most of his first flag in charge of the club in 2011.

The Cats coach has told K rock during today’s (Tuesday) premiership parade he won’t be moving on quickly as he did 11 years ago.

“Talking to Joel (Selwood) post-game, having been there before, it feels like it’s been a long road to get back here,” Scott said.

“(I’ll) take the time to smell the roses and enjoy it.

“I got a bit swept away with it last time, and probably went back to work too early, and was thinking about 2012 and forgot to celebrate 2011.

“I’m not going to make that mistake this time.”

Scott, who recorded his 200th win as Geelong coach with Saturday’s win, nominated Selwood’s final-quarter goal as his favourite moment of the 81-point demolition of Sydney.

“That was probably the one that got me going a little bit,” he said. “Joel’s reaction; Hawk’s (Tom Hawkins) reaction.

“But even Brandan Parfitt coming on was a great moment for me.

“There were heaps of them.”

Selwood’s future remains in the air, with a decision on whether the only four-time premiership Cat will extend his career into a 17th season expected in the coming days.

Not surprisingly, Scott would have no issue with his inspiration skipper going again.

“I’ve had a chance to look at the game,” he said.

“I haven’t looked at it the way I normally would, in terms of analysis, but more as a fan watching the broadcast view.

“My take on it game day was the same watching the replay – he was fantastic.

“He certainly could (play on).”
