Geelong coach Chris Scott hasn’t ruled out Toby Conway joining fellow ruck Rhys Stanley for the latter’s 200th game against North Melbourne on Sunday.
The pair is yet to play in the same team in an AFL match, with Conway’s lone appearance for the 2024 season coming on Easter Monday when Stanley was managed ahead of a five-day break into the win over the Western Bulldogs.
“We’re thinking about it,” Scott said.
“I’m probably not in a position in our preparation for this week to roll out our plans just yet, but it’s a live option for us.
“We consider those two to be a partnership – those two in particular. We’ve got other options as well in the ruck.
“But, we’ll use them both throughout the year and the priority for Toby’s making sure that we don’t cut any corners to make sure he’s a really consistent, decade-long player for us.”
CATS: SCOTT “OPEN-MINDED” ON THOMAS
Captain Patrick Dangerfield needed only to get through training today to tick off his return from a hamstring injury, while Zach Tuohy’s minor ankle issue isn’t likely to sideline him.
Livewire forward Gary Rohan has overcome a back issue and will make his first appearance of 2024 in the Cats’ VFL clash with the Northern Bullants on Sunday arvo.
Scott hinted at a change of role for the veteran former Swan.
“We’re not in a position to forecast exactly how he’s going to come back into the AFL team,” he said.
“My position, at least internally, is really clear on him; when he’s up and going and really ready to play well, he’ll be in our team, somewhere.
“But, our forward line is looking really stable at the moment, which is always a priority for us.
“We just need to think about how he comes back through the VFL program; he’ll play some different positions as well, so that’ll give us some options.
“We’re not pigeon-holing him as a forward necessarily.”
