Exciting forward Jay Polkinghore will make his AFL debut in Geelong’s crucial clash with St Kilda at GMHBA Stadium tomorrow (Thursday) night.
The 20-year-old, who arrived at the club with pick 44 in the 2024 National Draft from the South Australian town of Penong via SANFL club Norwood, will become the Cats’1122nd VFL/AFL player.
Polkinghorne, who recently signed a one-year contract extension, has earned his chance after some impressive form at VFL level since returning from a foot injury sustained in late March.
In those five matches, he’s kicked 16.8, including 5.3 in last week’s win over Richmond.
Across 23 VFL games since arriving at Geelong, he’s managed 51.31.
Polkinghorne is the Cats’ second debutant in 2026, following Mitch Edwards, who made his first AFL appearance in Round 1.
It means Geelong will make at least two changes for the meeting with the Saints.
Small forward Gryan Miers was confirmed as returning by coach Chris Scott on Tuesday.
Jeremey Cameron (AC joint) is the only confirmed out from the team that lost to the GWS Giants.
